TRIADS Training Workshop: Unix Shell/Command Line
In this one-session course we will explore the text-based Unix Shell (often called the command line or terminal). The shell is a powerful but potentially daunting tool that can, among other things, help process datasets that you would otherwise be unable to; think if you've ever tried to open a large spreadsheet in Excel. It is also a necessary tool when working with applications like Docker or WashU's Research Infrastructure Services (RIS). This course will help demystify the shell. If you have had some interactions with the shell but aren't fully confident or want to improve your knowledge of the shell then this is the course for you. This workshop will be focussed on the Unix shell and is intended for graduate students, faculty and staff from any field at WashU. The course is designed for maximum accessibility – there are no prerequisites for this class.
This class will be fully in-person, and participants will use their own laptops.
