TRIADS Data Visualization Workshop: Storytelling with Data in R and ggplot2
TRIADS will offer a two-part workshop (Morning/Afternoon sessions) hosted by Dr. Emorie D. Beck from the University of California, Davis. The workshop is intended for graduate students, post-docs, research staff, and faculty from any field at Wash U who are interested in learning more about how to create effective data visualizations in general and specifically within R. This workshop is meant to be accessible but basic knowledge of the R working environment (in RStudio or Positron) is recommended. It will focus on providing tools and resources that will extend beyond the workshop into participants’ research pipelines.
Topics will include but are not limited to:
- Data visualization as storytelling
- The cognitive psychology of data visualization
- Overview of ggplot2
- Topical application (e.g., visualizing uncertainty)
- ggplot2 “hacks and tricks” (e.g., outputting visualizations, creating visualizations from model objects, piecing plots together)
The workshop will be divided into morning and evening sessions. Participants are welcome to attend one or both sessions as their schedule allows:
- Session 1: Data Visualization Foundations (8.30am-11.30am) in DUC, room 234
- Session 2: Data Visualization Applications (1pm-3pm) in DUC, room 234
After the workshop join us in the Women's Building Formal Lounge for Dr. Beck's discussion on the "Promises and Challenges of Prediction in Psychology":
